Honeymoon in Mauritius: the Private Beach Brunch

A honeymoon in Mauritius fills up fast: catamaran, Île aux Cerfs, the waterfalls in the south, the markets. And by the end of the trip, many couples reach the same conclusion — they saw everything, but they had very little time alone.

That's exactly what a morning like this is for: a table set facing the lagoon, two hours, and nothing to organise.

Why morning rather than dinner

Mauritian hotels are very good at the romantic dinner — it's often already included in honeymoon packages. Mornings, on the other hand, are almost always free. And they're the best part of the day on the northern beaches.

Between 8am and 10am the lagoon is translucent, the beach is quiet, the light is soft. You have the setting to yourselves, and the whole day still ahead. A dinner ends a day; a brunch begins one.

Where, in the north

• Pointe aux Canonniers — the most private, with corners sheltered from passers-by.
• Trou aux Biches — white sand and filao trees, the most photogenic setting.
• Mont Choisy — wide open, there's always space to yourselves.
• Pereybère — livelier, handy if you're heading out afterwards.

When to visit Mauritius for a honeymoon

May to November is the safest window: dry, mild, calm seas in the morning. September and October are particularly pleasant — the warmth returns without the humidity of the austral summer.

From December to April it's hotter and more humid, with brief showers. Mornings often stay beautiful: another argument for a morning brunch over an afternoon one.

Organising from abroad

Most couples write to us before they even land in Mauritius. That's the right way to do it, especially in high season.
