Where to Brunch in Grand Baie: the 2026 Guide

Grand Baie has become, in just a few years, the centre of gravity of northern Mauritius. People come for the bay, the restaurants, the shops — and increasingly, for brunch. The question is where, and more importantly how.

This guide covers the three options available in the area, what they cost, and who they suit.

Three ways to brunch in the north

1. Brunch on a terrace

The classic: a venue in Grand Baie, a menu, table service. Simple, no planning required, and perfect for a spontaneous Sunday.

The limits: in high season the best terraces are full by 10am and booking is essential. The setting is lovely but shared — for a special occasion, you're rarely alone.

2. Brunch on the beach

A table set directly on the sand, facing the lagoon, in place before you arrive. That's our Beach Experience: 2 hours, Rs 6,500 for 2 people, quality crockery and linen, fresh local produce.

This is the format for occasions: a birthday, a proposal, a honeymoon — or simply wanting to do things properly.

3. Brunch delivered to you

It's what families with young children choose most often, along with travellers who want a beautiful morning without leaving their accommodation.

What time should you brunch in Mauritius?

The sweet spot in the north is 9:30am – 11:30am. Earlier and it's still cool with the beach barely awake; later and the sun turns harsh as the crowds build.

One exception: from June to September, the Mauritian winter, you can push a little later without suffering the heat. Conversely, from December to March it's better to go earlier — brunch at 9am is far more comfortable than at 11am.

Which season to choose

• May to November — the best window: dry weather, calm morning seas, mild temperatures. Also the most reliable season for a special occasion.
• December to April — hotter and more humid, with brief showers. Mornings often stay beautiful, which is exactly why morning beats afternoon at this time of year.
• July and August — peak tourist season: weekends book up fast, so plan ahead.

What does brunch cost in the north?

Prices vary widely by format. For reference: delivery to your accommodation starts with us at Rs 2,700 for two, while a full beach experience with set-up and service is Rs 6,500 for two.

The difference isn't only the food: on the beach there's the location scouting, transporting the equipment, setting up before you arrive and packing down afterwards. That invisible work is what separates a picnic from a properly dressed table.

The mistakes we see most

Ignoring the tide. At high tide some stretches of beach shrink by several metres. A set-up planned without checking ends up too close to the water.

Aiming for sunset. It's beautiful, but brief, busy, and the light drops fast. Mornings give you two full hours and a far clearer lagoon.

Booking too late in high season. In July–August and over the holidays, weekends go several weeks ahead.

Forgetting the plan B. A Mauritian shower lasts twenty minutes, but you need to know in advance what you'll do: shift the time, move to shelter, or switch to delivery.
